My “Big Fat Greek” Olympics 2004 Coverage

Did you catch the opening ceremonies yesterday? Best I’ve ever seen, but man it took forever to get all 282 countries in there. Canada was 73rd up and got a very warm reception indeed, in fact better then the US. A very nice stadium indeed!
I can hardly wait to get my LCD home theatre project (more details soon) up and running to watch Womens Beach Volleyball which starts on Sunday. Too bad the IOC has not yet recognized Nude Volleyball yet, but then I’m wondering if silicon implants will be tested for and where does one signup to be a judge?
Indeed, such a sport would keep the world united in solidarity for 16 days, and glued to their TV sets (thus no wars could be started). But then I ask, why only have it every 4 years.. why not just start a Women’s Nude Volleyball Channel with 24 hour satellite broadcasts? Indeed, the world would be a much better place, IMHO. Sure they could also offer a Men’s Nude Volleyball channel, but I ain’t giving up my remote to the wifey.
Finally, I’m no expert – but I think this competitor from “Elbonia” should be barred from further competition and immediately tested for “anobolic steroids“. Also, Bjork should be disbarred from further opening ceremonies, or else unraveling her dress should be made into an Olympic sport. Hell. give her a drug test too! Talk about a “wardrobe malfunction” – I’d also give her a 0.0 for talent.

Fashion Quote: “Best dressed were the Russians, who wore classy creme-colored newsboy hats and suits with coffee-colored ties. Worst was a tie between Australia’s green jacket that is actually more hideous than the one donned at the Masters and Bjork’s tangled fabric gown that served as a screen for a laser world map as she sang.”

My Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Home Theatre Project
Well. after having built the 100″ Fresnel Projects in the past I finally upgraded to the next evolutionary step in my home theatre projects. I recently acquired a Sharp QA-1500 LCD Project Panel for (cough.. FREE).. and well today I dropped $150 on an Eiki-3990 (4,000 Luminens OHP), a stand, a portable screen, and three chairs. Last year I puchased a motorized DA-LITE screen for my other projection projects.
So right now as I write this (with all the lights turned on in the basement) I am watching Shrek 2 on DVD. Yes, Shrek 2 on DVD which does not come out until November 2004. Here are some sample pictures of my setup and screenshots. Of course my camera doesn’t do the pictures ANY justice. Suffice to say, I’d never spend $1,500 – $2,000 on a rear projection TV after using this setup. Check out our local auction houses or Ebay to see what’s available for used panel projectors and OHP’s. You can easily put one together for the same price. I am not the first to do this, nor the last and indeed it’s the coolest home project I’ve done since building my own arcade machine.
Bring on the Women’s Volleyball now and I can’t wait to hook up my X-Box and Mame Arcade machine to this projector now. Truly amazing quality for $150! You can’t even buy a 14″ Color TV for that up here.. now I have a 300″ Drive-In!
