LIVE CHAT: Olympics Day 3

Twitter is also crying now… #2010Olympics

P.S. – How neat was it that he also beat out that media-pompousDale-Begg Smith‘ Ozzie, whom was also from Canada originally!!

Nodar Kumaritashvili (1988-2010)

February 12th, 2010 Ranger Bob No comments

Nodar Kumaritashvili of Georgia competes during luge training ahead of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler, February 10, 2010. Kumaritashvili was killed after crashing during a training run February 12

I have doused the campfire flames today to honour an Olympian athlete from Georgia whom tragically lost his life earlier today pursing his dreams. I would hope fellow Canadians across this land also lower their flags to half mast as well during these Vancouver Winter Games.

Words cannot even begin to express how devastating this news must be to his family and friends, and country men. The games are all about bringing the world together, and together we all share in this loss.

Good on the Georgian Team for deciding to stay for the opening ceremonies to march and honour their team member. I certainly hope they stay for the games.

The moment was recorded quite vividly on video today and released here on LiveLeak, where I first learned about it. I also caught the footage again on CTV when I got home. No, I don’t think I can ever forget the sound of that brutal impact.

Be forewarned, the video is very graphic. Also, this was apparently the third accident reported on the track today.. let’s all hope there are no more like this throughout the games.

Boing, Boing, Boing!

August 10th, 2008 Ranger Bob No comments

Ah yes, just got back in from a family trip to Banff this weekend (posting pics to Flickr now). Of course, I could not leave the hotel room to head up to the top of Sulfur Mountain in the Gondola until after the ‘Women’s Beach Volleyball‘ was done playing on the room set. And.. even with the low temps at elevation I had to wait some time before I could get into the Hot Springs pool. :)

God bless the Olympic Committee for making this a sport! Now.. how soon before they make it into a ‘pay per serve‘ nude one? :)

And way to go GW! Man.. I totally see you in a different light now! Atta Boy, coast through those last few months in office. Sit back, and spark up some more doobies. :)

Women’s Volleyball!

Ouch!

Yeah, the above pretty much sums it up – however, one of the Gold winners in cycling is right here from Edmonton (a.k.a. “The City Of Champions”). Poor Perdita Felicien wiped out during the hurdles. Ouch indeed! Right now I am watching Brasil go for the Gold in Men’s Beach Volleyball on my new big screen theatre (only a few serves away now). I only caught one Women’s game, but it was pretty sweet. Tough to keep the camera still during all that action. =)

I haven’t been Blogging much this past week due in part to the Olympics, and my new home theatre project. Anyways, here’s a few pictures of the almost completed room. Yeah, I painted the walls black, and installed theatre red carpet. So nice! So dark!

Tonight I’m going to sneak out to hook some trout before the snow flies up here. Egad, only 4 more months till Christmas. Now isn’t that a sobering thought!

My “Big Fat Greek” Olympics 2004 Coverage

Did you catch the opening ceremonies yesterday? Best I’ve ever seen, but man it took forever to get all 282 countries in there. Canada was 73rd up and got a very warm reception indeed, in fact better then the US. A very nice stadium indeed!

I can hardly wait to get my LCD home theatre project (more details soon) up and running to watch Womens Beach Volleyball which starts on Sunday. Too bad the IOC has not yet recognized Nude Volleyball yet, but then I’m wondering if silicon implants will be tested for and where does one signup to be a judge?

Indeed, such a sport would keep the world united in solidarity for 16 days, and glued to their TV sets (thus no wars could be started). But then I ask, why only have it every 4 years.. why not just start a Women’s Nude Volleyball Channel with 24 hour satellite broadcasts? Indeed, the world would be a much better place, IMHO. Sure they could also offer a Men’s Nude Volleyball channel, but I ain’t giving up my remote to the wifey.

Finally, I’m no expert – but I think this competitor from “Elbonia” should be barred from further competition and immediately tested for “anobolic steroids“. Also, Bjork should be disbarred from further opening ceremonies, or else unraveling her dress should be made into an Olympic sport. Hell. give her a drug test too! Talk about a “wardrobe malfunction” – I’d also give her a 0.0 for talent.

Fashion Quote: “Best dressed were the Russians, who wore classy creme-colored newsboy hats and suits with coffee-colored ties. Worst was a tie between Australia’s green jacket that is actually more hideous than the one donned at the Masters and Bjork’s tangled fabric gown that served as a screen for a laser world map as she sang.”

My Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Home Theatre Project

Cllick for specifications.Well. after having built the 100″ Fresnel Projects in the past I finally upgraded to the next evolutionary step in my home theatre projects. I recently acquired a Sharp QA-1500 LCD Project Panel for (cough.. FREE).. and well today I dropped $150 on an Eiki-3990 (4,000 Luminens OHP), a stand, a portable screen, and three chairs. Last year I puchased a motorized DA-LITE screen for my other projection projects.

Click for specifications. So right now as I write this (with all the lights turned on in the basement) I am watching Shrek 2 on DVD. Yes, Shrek 2 on DVD which does not come out until November 2004. Here are some sample pictures of my setup and screenshots. Of course my camera doesn’t do the pictures ANY justice. Suffice to say, I’d never spend $1,500 – $2,000 on a rear projection TV after using this setup. Check out our local auction houses or Ebay to see what’s available for used panel projectors and OHP’s. You can easily put one together for the same price. I am not the first to do this, nor the last and indeed it’s the coolest home project I’ve done since building my own arcade machine.

Bring on the Women’s Volleyball now and I can’t wait to hook up my X-Box and Mame Arcade machine to this projector now. Truly amazing quality for $150! You can’t even buy a 14″ Color TV for that up here.. now I have a 300″ Drive-In!
